Product Details
Product Overview
The Type A Shipping Container is a purpose-built transport package designed for the safe and secure movement of low-level radioactive materials across domestic and international routes. Manufactured to exacting specifications, this container provides robust shielding, structural integrity, and leak-tight containment under normal conditions of transport.

Regulatory Compliance
This container is fully certified under the following international and national regulatory frameworks, ensuring lawful transport of radioactive substances in all major jurisdictions:
- IAEA SSR-6 — Regulations for the Safe Transport of Radioactive Material (2018 Edition)
- ISO 1496-7 — Series 1 freight containers — Specification and testing for tank containers
- 49 CFR 173.403 — US DOT definition and packaging requirements for Type A quantities
- ADR Chapter 5.2 — European Agreement concerning International Carriage of Dangerous Goods
- GB 11806-2019 — Chinese national standard for safe transport of radioactive materials

Activity Limits
Type A containers are authorized for the transport of radioactive contents with activity levels not exceeding A1 or A2 special form values as defined in IAEA SSR-6 Table 2. Typical applications include medical isotopes (Tc-99m, I-131), industrial gauges (Cs-137, Co-60 sources in fixed assemblies), and low-level waste packages from research facilities.
Design Features
Every Type A Shipping Container incorporates multiple engineered safety layers. The primary containment vessel is fabricated from 316L stainless steel with welded seams, providing chemical resistance and long-term durability. Surrounding the inner vessel, high-density polyethylene foam absorbs shock and vibration during road, rail, or sea transit.
The outer shell features integrated lifting lugs certified for top-lift and side-lift operations, fork-lift pockets for standard handling equipment, and tie-down rings compliant with CSC (Container Safety Convention) plate requirements. A tamper-evident sealing system with serialized lead seals ensures chain-of-custody integrity from origin to destination.
Quality Assurance
Each unit undergoes a comprehensive factory acceptance test (FAT) protocol including hydrostatic pressure testing at 1.5× design pressure, helium leak detection, radiographic weld inspection, and dimensional verification against ISO tolerances. A unique serial number and accompanying test certificate accompany every delivered container.
